January Sermon Series… believeinplace.com – A Worshiping Community • Walking in the Way of Jesus • Believing in Place (.com) .
“Tell me the stories of Jesus.” Well, ok. But this story, like any story, has to be told in a way that you are not only willing, but able to listen to it—to really hear it. Chances are if someone gave you a scroll, written in Hebrew, and told you to go home and read it, it wouldn’t matter to you if the story was the Book of Genesis or the winning lottery numbers for the next five years. The format would render the story useless to you.
These days people are expressing themselves using ‘blogs’. In fact, not only are they expressing themselves—they are also using the ‘blogosphere’ as a gathering place. It’s where people go to discuss ideas, debate their value, challenge and learn from each other. Blogs are where dialogues are happening, in conjunction with the other social media available to us.
We have a link to our blog on our web site. It’s called “The Church Blog”. Catchy name. (If you are reading this, you are there. Welcome!) What we hope for is this: that people who are surfing the web looking for a church in Burlington would hit on our web site, and click on “The Church Blog”. If you haven’t been there, we invite you to give it a look. You will find a recap of the Sunday Service, and often you can listen to the message that was shared. You will find a devotion on Tuesdays (“Tuesdevo”) and a more lengthy reflection on Thursday.
We hope people will go to the blog—and every once in a while post a comment with regard to what they have read there. As is the case whenever you “go to the dance”. There are two challenges—first, you have to show up. You have to get there. (Go to the blog!) Then, you have to be willing to take the risk, and ask someone to dance. (Don’t be afraid to comment—either directly on the blog, or on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or Google +.)
