Why Jesus?

Why Jesus? Why Church? Why This Church? Why Now?

We begin a September series today asking the question: Why? Here is what Rachel, today’s preacher, has to say about the message today:

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. Matthew 4:23September 7 Church Sign

Why would anyone want to go to church? For that matter, why should they? Why would anyone spend time considering Jesus, the claims he makes for himself or the life he lays out for us? Join us all month as we ask “Why?” Life has changed a whole lot since 30AD… but then again… has it? People we love still leave our lives too soon. Community still lifts us up. We are still inspired by people with vision, compassion, and integrity.

Maybe there are some answers, or at least some helpful questions, that can give us some direction. Join us for the adventure…

Scripture Readings for today’s message:   Matthew 4: 13 – 25,     Acts 2: 22 – 36

Mark Demers

Want to talk about sex, politics, spirituality? So do I. I grew up in a religious home in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Our country was reeling from assassinations and the devastation of the Viet Nam War. Looking for something beautiful, I got a degree in music, married the love of my life and had children. Looking for God, I then went to seminary. Looking for something that might transform the world, I became a local church pastor. Now, I’m always looking for people who want to talk about important things. I cherish conversations with emerging leaders, people who are antsy to try an idea they believe would change the world for the better. I’d would love to hear from you.
