What Will It Cost? What Is It Worth?

January 18, 2015

“Teacher, we have something we want you to do for us … ” Mark 10:35—The Message

It doesn’t matter what it is we are told we want, it costs money. Do you want children? It will cost money. In fact, if a child was born in 2013, the US Department of Agriculture estimates it will cost over $245,000 to get them from conception to high school graduation. College? That will be extra. Today we are talking about what children cost. And while we are at it, what does it cost once we reach adulthood? What costs do our neighbors, our environment, and the God who created us incur because of us?

Mark Demers

Want to talk about sex, politics, spirituality? So do I. I grew up in a religious home in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Our country was reeling from assassinations and the devastation of the Viet Nam War. Looking for something beautiful, I got a degree in music, married the love of my life and had children. Looking for God, I then went to seminary. Looking for something that might transform the world, I became a local church pastor. Now, I’m always looking for people who want to talk about important things. I cherish conversations with emerging leaders, people who are antsy to try an idea they believe would change the world for the better. I’d would love to hear from you.
