Life on the Slack Line

Just  firm enough to encourage you to take the next step; just shaky enough to ensure that it will be an adventure.

Life is like a slack line – fun for the whole family. For some, Dad or Mom has to be right there for reassurance; for others, they want to take the steps alone. Eventually that’s where we all are at – alone on the slack line of life. When Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow because there are troubles (and challenges and joys) enough for the day, perhaps he was saying the wonderful, mysterious truth about life. It’s one step at a time. There is likely to be some shaking and swaying. But what exhilaration there is when the foot lands firmly where it needs to be.

It’s all about balance, about risk-taking, trusting yourself to the core and depending upon God to the extreme.

The next time life is feeling a bit uncertain, beckoning you to take a step that has no guarantees but promises to provide an adventure, remember: it’s a slack line … and you are not the only one trying to simply, safely, joyfully put one foot in front of the other.

A blessed Tuesday.

Want to talk about sex, politics, spirituality? So do I. I grew up in a religious home in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Our country was reeling from assassinations and the devastation of the Viet Nam War. Looking for something beautiful, I got a degree in music, married the love of my life and had children. Looking for God, I then went to seminary. Looking for something that might transform the world, I became a local church pastor. Now, I’m always looking for people who want to talk about important things. I cherish conversations with emerging leaders, people who are antsy to try an idea they believe would change the world for the better. I’d would love to hear from you.
