Tell Me Again … What is a “Christian”?

“If any want to become my followers …”

Some say a “Christian” is defined by what they believe. Others say what a person does with his or her life is what determines if they are a Christian. A lot of people say it is both.

“… let them deny themselves, take up their cross and follow me.”

These days we hear about Christians and where they are leaning in their politics. Polls are taken; percentages are offered – of Black, Hispanic, Women, and “Evangelical Christian” voters.

“For those who want to save their life will lose it …”

How does your definition of “Christian” inform your politics?

“…and those who lose their life for my sake and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.” Mark 8:34-35

Tell me again … What is a Christian?

A blessed Tuesday.

Mark Demers

Want to talk about sex, politics, spirituality? So do I. I grew up in a religious home in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Our country was reeling from assassinations and the devastation of the Viet Nam War. Looking for something beautiful, I got a degree in music, married the love of my life and had children. Looking for God, I then went to seminary. Looking for something that might transform the world, I became a local church pastor. Now, I’m always looking for people who want to talk about important things. I cherish conversations with emerging leaders, people who are antsy to try an idea they believe would change the world for the better. I’d would love to hear from you.
