More Than A Race

It purports to be about people who are made of iron. But as the video shows, it’s not just about steel. You can hear some of their stories.

It’s a great day in Lake Placid, and the volunteers and the crowds are as dedicated as the athletes. But watching this video, and remembering the times I watched it live as it happened, I am reminded of this: It is about so much more than what it appears.

It is as much about the human spirit as it is the athletic body. And the “Ironman” isn’t the only event in which this is true. Every day people are carrying a burden, or overcoming an injury, or dealing with a demon all the while gasping for breath and in desperate need of encouragement. If you are the “athlete” today, then godspeed. But just as important, if you are the “crowd”, then get out there and cheer someone on. They are depending on you!

A blessed Tuesday

Want to talk about sex, politics, spirituality? So do I. I grew up in a religious home in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Our country was reeling from assassinations and the devastation of the Viet Nam War. Looking for something beautiful, I got a degree in music, married the love of my life and had children. Looking for God, I then went to seminary. Looking for something that might transform the world, I became a local church pastor. Now, I’m always looking for people who want to talk about important things. I cherish conversations with emerging leaders, people who are antsy to try an idea they believe would change the world for the better. I’d would love to hear from you.
