From Turkey…With Some Finagling

“Wow, that is beautiful! Where did you get it?”

“I got it when I was in Turkey – at an outdoor bazaar in Istanbul.”

“How did you get it home?”

“Never mind that, you should have been there for the bargaining! It was incredible. I kept walking away…and then coming back …”

“But how did you get it home? It’s heavy.”

“I carried it.”

“Right on the plane? They let you bring it on the plane?

“It was in a bag and I just carried it with me.”

It’s quite the chess set, this mother-of-pearl inlay with some real heft to the board. But I know this guy, and he is able to accomplish amazing things – flying internationally without a passport, identifying edible mushrooms, fixing things electrical and mechanical (which is good because he can be as adept at breaking things as he is at fixing them).

Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed by what lies before you, needing to be done. Believe that 90% of the task is your own willingness to have at it. The rest is up to God’s grace. Where there is a will, reinforced by passion and heavily seasoned with faith, you can get it done.

A blessed Tuesday.

Want to talk about sex, politics, spirituality? So do I. I grew up in a religious home in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Our country was reeling from assassinations and the devastation of the Viet Nam War. Looking for something beautiful, I got a degree in music, married the love of my life and had children. Looking for God, I then went to seminary. Looking for something that might transform the world, I became a local church pastor. Now, I’m always looking for people who want to talk about important things. I cherish conversations with emerging leaders, people who are antsy to try an idea they believe would change the world for the better. I’d would love to hear from you.
