A Different Roar Than Katy Had In Mind

St Mark

First of all, hers is a Tiger. His is a Lion.

And then, hers is some kind of weird mix of Jungle Jane and sex symbol – and really, painting the elephant’s toenails pink?

His is more focused: The good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Hers is a cool song – better, I think without the ridiculous video. His is a life-changing message.

When I was a child, on April 25 one of the priest’s in the parish would stop over to our house with a treat – maybe some chocolate or something sweet – and wish me a “Happy Feast Day”. It is the Feast of St. Mark the Evangelist – symbolized by a winged lion. Perhaps you might read a few chapters from the Gospel of Mark today. From the prophet Isaiah to John the Baptist to the Christ himself, there is something immediate, compelling, healing and powerful  – something holy and deeply true in what Mark has to say and the story he has to tell. Listen … and you might hear the very roar of God.

A blessed Tuesday.

Mark Demers

Want to talk about sex, politics, spirituality? So do I. I grew up in a religious home in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Our country was reeling from assassinations and the devastation of the Viet Nam War. Looking for something beautiful, I got a degree in music, married the love of my life and had children. Looking for God, I then went to seminary. Looking for something that might transform the world, I became a local church pastor. Now, I’m always looking for people who want to talk about important things. I cherish conversations with emerging leaders, people who are antsy to try an idea they believe would change the world for the better. I’d would love to hear from you.
